Pathways, Inc. Recognizes Exceptional Staff Member as Employee of the Quarter
Corning, NY—July 21, 2017—Pathways, Inc. employee, Kristy LaBar has been recognized as Employee of the Quarter for her exceptional service to the organization, and advocacy for individuals receiving care through the agency’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Nursing Home Transition Diversion (NHTD), and Home Care services. 

Each quarter Pathways, Inc. identifies an employee that exemplifies the agency’s mission, vision, philosophy, and values by going above and beyond the normal scope of his/her job responsibilities. Kristy LaBar provides oversight for both Support Services and Service Coordination departments as Director of TBI, NHTD, and Home Care Services. LaBar accepted this position in 2016, and has worked diligently to unify the Support Services and Service Coordination departments, and additionally facilitated a smooth transition as the Structured Day Programs for both TBI and NHTD individuals combined to one location in October 2016. 

The Patricia A. Dix Center in Horseheads, NY provides a Structured Day Program for 18 individuals within the Corning/Elmira and surrounding community. In addition, service coordination and in-home support services for individuals with TBI and those seeking alternatives to nursing home placement are extended to more than 70 individuals in Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, and Tompkins counties. There are many other supports that individuals may also receive including in-home care (home and community support services), independent living skills training (to regain skills or learn strategies to live as independently as possible), environmental modifications, and more.

Denise Kaufmann, Community Based Services Support Coordinator for Pathways, Inc. commented, “Kristy has always been a true advocate for the consumers in our programs, and is looking for new ways to grow and improve both departments.”

Dee Righter, Director of Community Based Services for Pathways, Inc. shared, “Kristy’s desire to bring Service Coordination and Support Services under one umbrella has proved to be a positive change resulting in enhanced communication and service delivery. Her calm manner, respectful interactions and exceptional knowledge base has earned her the admiration of both the staff and individuals she supports.”

Pathways, Inc. has been serving individuals with traumatic brain injury since 1976, and has been working specifically with the Department of Health’s Traumatic Brain Injury Waver Program since 1995. The Service Coordinator’s primary role is to ensure health and safety while assisting individuals in exploring and securing supports and services that best meet their needs and desires to allow them to live as independently and productively as possible.
