Pathways, Inc. is pleased to announce our recent approval to provide preschool special education services in Chemung County. This program fills an important void for families with children with special needs and is the result of months of collaboration with the Department of Education, Chemung County, and local school districts to ensure this necessary service is provided. The program will be held at Booth Education Center in Elmira and is expected to open in late September. We have completed our hiring of teachers, classroom aides, and therapists for the program and we will operate three classrooms to serve up to 36 children in total.
To participate in the preschool special education program, a child must be of preschool age with a disability, have an Individual Education Plan (IEP), and be recommended by the Committee on Preschool Special Education. The program promotes age-appropriate skill development to assist children in achieving educational success. Support services may include Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapies, 1-1 Aides, Sign Language, Family Support, and Augmentative Communication.
