Pay: $22.50–$25.00 per hour! (depending on related experience)

Nature of Work:

The Family Specialist is the key staff support person for the Resource Parents (RP), Youth and Parents/Guardians.  All casework services to these individuals are centralized and coordinated through this position in collaboration with the local district of social services.  The Family Specialist also coordinates rehabilitative services and advocates for the youth with community agencies and schools to provide advocacy services for the youth. Excellent interpersonal communication and sound writing skills are essential.  Must have excellent skills in supervision, organization, interviewing, counseling, and training.  Ability to relate to individuals of diverse ages and backgrounds. The Foster Parent Homefinder has an extremely important role within the Therapeutic Foster Care Program.  Major priorities fall within three general areas: public relations, recruitment of prospective Foster Parents, and training.

Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education or related human service field is required.  Experience may substitute for field of study but not for minimum degree requirement.  Advanced degrees preferred. 
  • A minimum of one year experience providing services to children with serious emotional disturbances and their families is required. 
  • Must meet the requirements of the School Age Care, Day Care, and/or Mental Health Regulations regarding a State Central Register Clearance regarding history of abuse/maltreatment of children.
