Nature of Work
The Substance Abuse Counselor works in the medically supervised outpatient program and is responsible for completing substance abuse assessments/evaluations, diagnosing substance abuse disorders, conducting individual counseling and group facilitation. They will perform case management services and will interface with other behavioral health providers and provide referrals as needed. The Substance Abuse Counselor will participate in multi-disciplinary team case conferences. This position will provide case management services for 35 clients, including those with co-occurring disorders.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of an Associate’s degree and a New York State Certified Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) credential or New York Certified Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee (CASAC T) credential is required.

Experience in working within a multidisciplinary team and a working knowledge and understanding substance abuse and mental health diagnoses preferred.

Must meet the requirements of the School Age Care, Day Care, and/or Mental Health/NYS Office of Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) Regulations regarding a State Central Register Clearance regarding history of abuse/maltreatment of children.
